Mission
We exist as a Bible –based local church that trains and equips members to love Christ- like lives, empowered to be profitable to their homes and communities.
Vision
We seek to build a fully Bible- based local church that is;
- Receptive to the Word (Acts17:11, 1 Pet 2:2)
- Reformed and Transformed by the Word (Acts 4:13, Rom 12: 1-2)
- Rooted and built up in the Word (Col 2:7, Eph 4: 13- 14)
- Ready to relay, and apply the Word to impact their homes and communities (John 4: 29 -30, Acts 16: 34, 17: 6, Gal 1: 24)
Firstly, we believe that a church is a training and equipping centre where Kingdom principles in God’s Word are taught to shape Christ- centred lives to full maturity in faith, and also a place in which the members become fully equipped to impact their homes and communities. We hope to facilitate the unleashing of gifts and the sharpening of talent in members. In the next 5 years, we intend to become more active in our community. In all that we do, we will strive to nurture and demonstrate excellence, professionalism and inspiration.
Our Vision is set within the framework of Vision 2023: Possessing the Nations (Equipping the Church to transform every sphere of society with Values and Principles of the Kingdom of God).
In the next 5 years, we hope to execute the Vision of the 4 R’s within the above stated international vision of the Church through the following programmes and projects.
- Encounter with the Truth Series (Teaching Word Services )
Knowing the Word and Living the Word are two key cardinal points in a believer’s growth and maturity. God’s Word is the key to Knowing the Truth which drives freedom. The focus of this service is to energize members in the study of the Word and its application to contemporary thorny issues which challenge righteous Christian living. We also seek to use it to transform Bible Study Groups into the International Discipleship Programme. We intend to do this through the following:
- Mountain Teaching Service (MTS): The Thursday of each week shall be dedicated to a special teaching service which addresses contemporary issues that challenge effective Christian living. Relevant topics which pose challenges to the contemporary Christian such as Homosexuality and the Christian; Christianity, Leadership, Corruption and Politics; The Christian Faith and Social Justice; Christianity and Peace Building, Christian Suffering, Healing and Restoration, Marriage, Domestic Abuse and Divorce, Singleness, Sexuality and Holy Living; Home, Parenting and the Christian Life; The Christian and Pro – environmentalism, etc, shall be taught under the full inspiration of the Holy Spirit. This is to arm the members with the relevant biblical knowledge on how to act and respond when they are confronted with such issues.
- Pre-sessional Sunday Bible Studies: Teachers of the programme shall have pre-sessional teaching meetings and discussions on how to transform their groups into a Discipleship Programme as enshrined in the Vision 2023 of CoP, where leaders are directly responsible for their group members, eventually strengthening their Home Cell Meetings.
- New Converts Classes and Retreats: Once in every two months, there will be teaching sessions and prayer retreats for all new converts to root them in their new faith through counselling, prayer and teachings.
- New members Class: This will orient new members who join CoP Church from other churches about the tenets.
- Word Study Group: Members (especially the youth) shall be encouraged to be committed to studying the Word through a “Read through the Bible Year Plan”, and periodic awards shall be given to those who successfully complete this annually. Preachers Plan shall be used to facilitate the implementation of the programme.
- Mantles and Intergenerational Services
This is aimed at providing an avenue for the young (eg, children’s service) and old (adult service) to fellowship together at least three Sundays a year. This will enhance adult interest in the Children’s Ministry and facilitate the inculcation of CoP liturgy and doctrines into the children. The adult membership will be able to better appreciate what their children are learning and how the teachers can be supported to do their best. Furthermore, the ‘Elijahs’ (the adult service) would have the opportunity to impart the ‘Elishas’ (the children’s service) through congregational prayers.
- Holy Ghost Convention and Evangelism
Each year, we shall have three main Holy Ghost Conventions. The focus of this programme is to
- Impart spiritual gifts
- Teach and demonstrate their operations within the local assembly and during evangelism
- How to grow spiritual gifts, and self-management when one has a spiritual gift. This will be executed through the following programmes
-
- Realms of power (RoP): Every Lord’s Supper Week shall be effectively used to teach on Christ’s death, resurrection, and ascension and its benefits to the believer in the areas of holy living, acts of love and compassion, healing, and power demonstration. We shall explore the possibility of organizing all – night prayer sessions on some of the Fridays preceding the Lord’s Supper.
- Upperroom Hour (UpH): This is a two – hour prayer session every Saturday preceding Lord’s Supper that will be coordinated by the Prayer Warriors. The focus is to deepen prayer and fasting in the youth and train them in intercession to address all issues confronting the Assembly. Special issues affecting members which need to be addressed through prayer will also be tackled. The Resident Pastor and Presiding Elder shall be present in the meeting to guide its focus. A leader (preferably a presbyter) shall be responsible for this programme.
- Megathos Moment (MeMo – Hour): This programme is aimed at addressing the difficult situations of members through prayer and fasting. We trust the Lord to deal with difficult situations (which might be medically impossible, financially unachievable, and personally unattainable and extensively resource – constrained). It will run every Friday 5: 00 am to 7: 00 am prompt at the church auditorium.
- Healing Crusades: Twice a year, we shall organize a major crusade within East Legon and its environs. The focus of the crusade is to save souls and also to trust the Lord to heal, deliver and restore lives. Each crusade shall be preceded by a 2- 3 day prayer, fast and preparation. The crusades shall be planned and coordinated by the Evangelism Ministry and the rest of the other ministries (Men, Women, Youth and Children’s)
- Works of Service Summit (WOSS)
The focus of this programme will be to prepare our members to:
- Explore their potentials and build them
- Leverage them in the service of God and humanity.
Through this programme, we shall encourage members to personally minister to the needs of people in regard to their potentials, passion and interests. We shall seek to execute this through the following programmes:
- Once a year, we shall have a three- day retreat on WOSS.
- Strategic Conference: This focuses on young people. It shall be once a year and we seek to build in young people prayer, discipline/ good attitude, and service.
- Literary Groups Network: This programme will be once a year for all choral and choreography groups, instrumentalists, technical directors and drama groups. They shall spend a day’s prayer retreat or an all – night prayer with the Resident Pastor. We shall seek to develop their potentials and encourage excellence into all they do. We shall seek to help the Choir add value to CoP songs by translating them into English and using them during services.
- Mountain Claimers Conference: This will specifically focus on midlife adults, old and older adults in the church. Specific topics meeting their needs shall be addressed such as: Midlife crisis and its management; Physical Health and Illness and Care; Memory Loss, Personality Changes and Self- Management; Depression, Suicide and Aging; Spirituality and Mental Health in Aging; Meaningful Aging, etc. Christian experts including health workers and researchers on aging issues shall be invited to provide support. This will be organized once in a year.
- Expatriates Breakfast Meeting; As part of Vision 2023. PIWCs are expected to reach out to expatriates. The East Legon enclave, we believe, has a lot of such expatriates. Through the Men, Women and Evangelism Ministries, we shall organize a breakfast meeting that targets such persons to impact their lives and ultimately win them to Jesus.
- Worship Conference
This will involve the whole church and shall be organized twice every year. It shall be coordinated by the Choral groups under the leadership of the Presbytery, We shall extend an invitation to other choral groups (preferably within PIWCs in CoP in Accra) during such conferences.
- Community Transformation Programme
In line with Vision 2023, the Church seeks to equip its members to transform every sphere of society with the Values and Principles of the Kingdom of God. The implication is that we are not just preaching to and teaching our members God’s word for purposes of being ‘hearers’ but also be ‘doers’ of the Word. Consequently, we shall see to initiate the following programmes through all the Ministries in order to demonstrate the practical side of the gospel. They shall include:
- The Dorcas Clothes Programme: Our focus is to gather clothing and foodstuff for widows around East Legon and beyond. Each year, we shall donate at least twice to such groups; hopefully before Easter (March and April) and before Christmas (Early December).
- The Least of These Ministry (LEThEM) (Matt 25: 40): This shall focus on street children, prisoners, the poor, (as defined by LEAP). We shall seek to at least provide food, clothing, and other items for them.
- Ministry to Commercial Sex Workers and the Sex Trafficked: East Legon plays host to a number of young girls offering themselves for sex every night. In the next one year, we shall strategize to reach out to these young ladies with the Word through innovative means. This shall be one of the specialized ministries which shall be coordinated by the Evangelism and Women’s Ministries.
- Building Strategic Alliances:
Possessing the Nation Vision has socio – economic development as one of its focal areas to engage and leverage on the Church’s resources on. In RWC, we seek to translate this vision into building strategic alliances with specific public NGO’s within our catchment areas. For example:
- We shall identify all NGO’s within our ‘Jerusalem’ who share the socio- economic vision, request for their data and activities and collaborate on aspects that our resources can meet.
- We shall identify all churches within East Legon vicinity and identify how we can work together on the same socio- economic transformation.
- We shall organize a Needs and Resources study to familiarize ourselves with all public agencies (e.g. security, schools, social work, etc) and traditional authorities within the East Legon vicinity to brainstorm what we can do with them to address any needs of the community together.
- Building the French Assembly: In the next two years, we shall be committed to building a flourishing French Ministry as an adjunct service to Rhema. Interim leadership of the French Ministry shall be invited to discuss the way forward with the Presbytery starting from the end of September 2019.
- Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee
We shall put in place a Research, Monitoring and Evaluation Committee to translate this vision into achievable units. Their terms of reference shall be set for them by the Resident Minister.
